Words 'Sector briefing: What could the recent changes to the political landscape in Gloucestershire mean for our sector'

Following the local elections on Thursday 1 May 2025, we have created a quick Gloucestershire-focused briefing to help VCSE leaders understand what’s changed and what might come next for our sector.

A few months ago Sally Byng put a call-out in our News Bulletin to any VCSE leaders in Gloucestershire who might self-identify as self-doubting, asking if they like to join a newly forming club. Here's an update rom Sally, along with an invite for any other 'self-doubting' leaders in the county...

This month's guest blog is written by Amabel Mortimer, Strategic Director for Arts, Health and Wellbeing (University of Gloucestershire). Amabel shares insight into a journey that began 25 years ago and reflects on the benefits of committing to Equity, Diversion and Inclusion individually and as a sector...

Short Breaks Project Funding

Barnwood Trust, Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucestershire VCSE Alliance have awarded four organisations two years of funding through our partnership to enhance Short Breaks provision in Gloucester, Tewkesbury, and North Cotswold.

The Government has announced major changes to NHS structures, including the abolition of NHS England and a directive for Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) to cut their running costs by 50% within six months. This move is expected to lead to significant job losses and uncertainty across the VCSE sector.

Julie Reader-Sullivan and Cordell Ray (MBE)

Earlier this month, we said goodbye to several of our longstanding trustees. Emma Griffiths, Jenny Hopkins, Ali McGuckin, and Cordell Ray MBE have now retired from our Board, having completed their second three-year term of office.

It's Village Halls Week this week and our Go Volunteer Glos Manager, Emma, has written a blog that explores the vital role that volunteers across Gloucestershire play in keeping our village halls up and running.

The VCSE sector in Gloucestershire is currently experiencing a high number of leaders and changemakers leaving their roles, while others are experiencing increased pressure. It feels like a time of significant transition, not just within the VCSE sector but within leadership roles throughout the county.

There will be a number of factors affecting this, and the Gloucestershire VCSE Strategic Partnership recognise that change isn’t inherently bad, but identifying common trends will help them to understand the pressure points and target specific support for the sectors' existing leadership.
