Gloucestershire’s volunteering platform, Go Volunteer Glos, encourages individuals to volunteer to support their wellbeing

In a recent report by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) 77% of people surveyed felt that they improved their mental health and overall wellbeing through volunteering in some capacity (NCVO, Time Well Spent Report).

Our Go Volunteer Glos Manager, Emma Snell said “Volunteering can be seen as something that we could do if we had time. However, the NCVO Report and wider research has shown that volunteering can provide a range of health and wellbeing benefits for individuals. The benefits include meeting new people, developing new skills and not forgetting the positive feeling of making a difference within your community.

We currently have 350 organisations using our platform to advertise hundreds of local opportunities such as gardening roles, nature walks, social media support and helping at homework clubs. Our opportunities also vary in time commitment - from one off events to evening roles, and more regular weekly commitments. No matter what time you have to give, we have something for everyone

January sees many of us setting goals to support our health and wellbeing for the year. We’re therefore encouraging as many people as possible to give volunteering a go as you never know what you might gain from the experience!”.

Go Volunteer Glos is an online platform connecting volunteers across Gloucestershire with volunteering opportunities in the county. To find out more about volunteering and volunteer opportunities near you, please visit www.govolunteerglos.org.
