This course is designed to develop mental health crisis care awareness and aims to build on your experience and knowledge of working with people presenting with mental health problems in crisis.

The course will run over two consecutive mornings, via Zoom, on the below dates:

  • 4 & 5 September 2023, 9am - 1pm
  • 11 & 12 September 2023, 9am - 1pm
  • 2 & 3 October 2023, 9am - 1pm
  • 9 & 10 October 2023, 9am - 1pm
  • 16 & 17 October 2023, 9am - 1pm
  • 23 a& 24 October, 2023 9am - 1pm

The sessions will cover:

  • What is mental health and what is mental ill health?
  • A range of mental health conditions, for example depression, anxiety, psychosis and bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder / emotionally unstable personality disorder.
  • The impact of Adverse Childhood Events (ACEs) on adults and their lives and then and how we can support people when they are experiencing difficulties including the use of crisis and contingency plans.
  • Finally, the course looks at self-harm and how we can all help those who have suicidal thoughts and behaviours.

The effect of the Covid-19 pandemic and current cost of living crisis on all of us will run as a theme through the training as well as aligning to the objectives of the Mental Health Community Transformation (MHCT) Programme. More information about the MHCT Programme can be found here
