Healthy Lifestyles Gloucestershire Recommissioning Update

Gloucestershire County Council has awarded the contract to deliver the Healthy Lifestyles service for adults to a new provider, ABL Health Ltd, from 1 April 2024. ABL is an experienced, community-based, behaviour change specialist organisation. The new £1.13 million per annum contract will run for an initial 5 years, with the option to extend it for up to a further 4 years. ABL will offer support to help people make a lifestyle change, i.e. stop smoking, increasing their physical activity levels, reducing alcohol, or managing their weight.

Since the Healthy Lifestyles service was first put in place in 2017, there has been an increase in weight management support available in the county including the NHS Digital Weight Management offer. Therefore, the service no longer offers referrals to Slimming World and instead will focus on bespoke, targeted help for those people who face the greatest challenges in managing their weight.

Drug and Alcohol Services Recommissioning Update

Gloucestershire County Council has funded Via with £5.8 million per year to provide drug and alcohol treatment services for the county. The contract started on 1 April 2024 and will run for an initial 5 years, with the option to extend the contract up to a further 4 years. Via will provide free, confidential treatment and support to adults who live in Gloucestershire who need help with alcohol and drug issues. The service will be delivered from hubs in Cheltenham, Gloucester, and Stroud, as well as across an extensive network of community partnerships throughout the county.

Children & Family Centres Recommissioning Update

Gloucestershire County Council is investing £35million as part of the first phase of its plans to introduce the family hub model to Gloucestershire. Its network of 17 Children and Family Centres in communities across Gloucestershire will play a key role in the development of the family hub model, offering a wide range of family support services, or signposting to other services as needed. The county council has appointed Family Action to run its centres in Stroud and Cotswold, with Aspire Foundation Trust managing Cheltenham and Tewkesbury. The new contracts will begin on 1 April 2024. Work is ongoing to confirm a partnership for Gloucester and the Forest of Dean. You can find out more on the County Council's website.

Mental Health Support and Advice Service Recommissioning Update

Gloucestershire County Council will invest up to £4.7 million over the next seven years in mental health support. Rethink Mental Illness will receive £700k per year to provide its Mental Health Support and Advice Service. The new contract starts on 1 April 2024, for a period of five years, with the option to extend it for a further two years. Recommissioning of Youth Support Services in Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire County Council is recommissioning Youth Support Services in the county for delivery from 1 July 2024. We will provide further information on this page when it is available.
